University closure looms as NASU, SSANU, may go on strike next week

The non-teaching staff of Nigerian universities may resume their suspended strike next Week.

We can recall that the staff, members of the three unions, NASU, SSANU, and NAAT, had accused the federal Government of encouraging disparity between the Academic workers and Non Academic workers in disbursement of earned allowance last year.

An official of the SSANU who spoke to our correspondent said the workers under SSANU will meet for a NEC meeting in Bayero University Kano next Week Thursday and the meeting will end on Friday where decisions relating to resumption of strike among st other issues will be raised.

The Union had suspended a three months strike in March to discuss further with the Federal Government on issues raised on earned Allowance . Federal Government through the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige signed a Memorandum of the term of a settlement between the representatives of the unions and the government which culminated in the suspension of the strike action in March.

However, the unions have accused the federal government of failing to honour her words, and still yer to implement the terms of the agreement between the union and the government that made them suspend the strike action in March.
