Edo State: How Education Funding Has Regressed Since 2016

I was posted to a secondary sch in Edo state during my NYSC; when we arrived there,it was like a local poultry farm. All damaged structures, no chair, 2teachers & a principal,2 students;one in JS1 the other in 3. Education in Edo state is story of another day.- Chuks Okeke (Twitter User)

Recent reports from the Educational institutions in Edo state suggests that education funding as well as its implementation has regressed in recent years under the current leadership of the state.

According to trackaNG who conducted a brief review of the education status of the state, it has been alleged that the allocation for education has been falling by over 4 billion Naira annually since 2016. The big question is where is the funding channeled to?

As a case study, trackaNG pointed out Okpokhumi Grammar school,Owan East LGA. The only school that serves 3 communities with over 500 students. All the classrooms including principal office is in a dilapidated state.

We join other members of the affected communities to call on the well-meaning state governor, HE Godwin Obaseki to kindly rebuild to help the people of the communities.

God bless him as he does.
