These are some of the few questions asked by Jamb candidates that just concluded their 2018 UTME exams. It might interest you to know that about 70% of Students that passed Jamb will not be admitted into their Institution/course of Choice due to low Performance in Post UTME. All schools will be carrying out Post Utme Exams, while some have began already others are yet to announce their date.

Different schools uses different method for their Post UTME screening, while some Universities like the University of Benin may likely conduct Post Utme CBT exam, others may not. Before you can apply for a particular school for post Utme you must score above their JAMB Cut Off Mark. After the conclusion of Jamb the next thing for Student is to start preparing for their Post Utme.

Why Do Schools Conduct Post-UTME Admission Screening Exercise?

First of all what is “post Utme“?. This is an Acronym that stands Post – Unified Tertiary Matriculation Exam i.e an examination that is conducted after the main Exam. Now, back to the main question ‘Why do schools conduct Post Utme?‘. Schools cannot admit all candidates that scored above the required Cut-off mark in Jamb hence a regulatory exam is then conducted to help screen out/in some candidate thereby making it more easier for the school.

How Schools Organize/Conduct Their Post-UTME Admission Exersise

Different Institutions use different method for screening Student some of which includes.
1. Test Screening:
This is the most used method by universities, the test could either be in CBT (Computer based Test) or PPT (Paper Pen Test) Format, In this method Student are given a particular date when the exam will be done after which result and aggregate score will be released.

2. Online Screening:
This is another method implied by various institutions, in this type of screening student will not have to sit for any form of Exam instead they will be submitting their various results and credentials online for Screening. Note: most schools that uses this method often uses your O’Level result as an Admission Criterial. Below are some of the important document you may be requested to submit during the Online Screening.

  • O’level result (WAEC, NECO or GCE) with scratch card for the physical screening
  • JAMB result(original) 
  • Birth certificate 
  • Certificate of State/LG of origin 
  • JAMB Direct Entry Registration slip(For Direct Entry candidates) 
  • Passport
  • Online admission screening registration printout
  • Jamb details(such as Registration number, subject combined)

3. Physical Screening

Most schools demand student to appear physically at screening venue on a date fixed by the school. This is where candidates will present the above listed documents to the school to check for their validity.
Note: Some Schools may demand for but Online and Physical Screening, i.e you will have to submit the above listed document online and also present it during the physical Screening.


4. Oral Screening

Schools also conduct screening in form of interview for candidates. They are usually asked some questions. This type of Screening is mostly for DE (Direct Entry) candidates. Different schools uses different method for their Post UMTE screening, irrespective of the method used by your school of choice stay concentrated and determined.
