Latest information from the Abia State Polytechnic, ABIAPOLY, Aba has it that the striking members of Senior Staff association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) and the Non academic staff union (NASU) have announced the suspension of their current industrial action which has crippled academic activities at the State owned polytechnic.
The announcement followed the conclusion of today’s emergency congress, held by SSANIP in the Polytechnic’s premises.
A release signed by the Chairman of the SSANIP, Comrade Nwachukwu Chuks and the Secretary, Comrade Ugboaja Chigbo Fred, stated that the suspension is with effect from Wednesday, 16 May 2018.
It will be recalled that the members of Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the institution announced the suspension of their industrial action yesterday following successful negotiations between the management and the unions.
Members of Academic staff union of polytechnics (ASUP) of the school are expected to hold their congress on Wednesday (tomorrow) to take a decision on the suspension of their industrial action.
This would come as a welcomed relief to the students of the Abia State Polytechnic, ABIAPOLY, whom have been home since the commencement of the strike action.
