Cross River State Govt Commends UNICAL Management’s Foresight

The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Mr. Efiok Cobham has commended the Management of the University of Calabar(UNICAL) led by the Institutions Vice Chancellor, Prof. James Epoke over what he described as her foresightedness.

The Deputy Governor made the commendation during the official commissioning of the reconstructed Vice Chancellors lodge where he noted gladly, that beside being a befitting accommodation, the edifice will also make the Vice Chancellor stand tall when his colleagues come visiting.

Mr. Effiok Cobham who said he was particularly elated to be at the occasion, lauded the Institutions management for seeing the need to save cost noting that the funds thereof can now be channeled into other areas of need.

His Excellency particularly singled out infrastructural development as one of the outstanding indicators of the present managements strides.

In an earlier remark, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. James Epoke indicated that one of his first challenges upon assumption of office was the need to get an official accommodation for the Vice Chancellor.

Prof. Epoke said consequently, the immediate past Council led by Dr Roland Ehigiamusoe felt it was better to get a permanent place for the ViceChancellor instead of recourse to paying very high rent that comes with renting a befitting accommodation.

The Vice Chancellor expressed his joy that with the days event, that challenge has been effectively addressed.

Also speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the immediate past Pro-Chancellor, who was specially invited to the occasion, Dr, Roland Ehigiamusoe expressed his surprise and gratitude over his invitation, noting that it was indeed an uncommon gesture.

Dr. Ehigiamusoe appreciated Prof. Epoke for proving that his Council did not make any mistake in appointing him Vice Chancellor, adding that Prof. Epoke has proven to be both dynamic and hard working.

The Erstwhile Pro-Chancellor commended other members of the Universitymanagement for their cooperation and diligence and, the various trade Unions on campus for maintaining harmony during his time as Pro-Chancellor urging them to extend same to the present Governing Council.

The colorful event was spiced with fanfare including very entertaining dance presentations by students of the University of Calabar International Secondary School.
