National Universities Commission (NUC) in collaboration with National Association of Academic technologists (NAAT) has concluded an equipmentaudit inspection exercise of laboratories in the Faculty of Science of the Federal University Otuoke.
The Team which was led by Dr. (Mrs.) Chinelo Nwosu who represented theExecutive Secretary of NUC Prof. Julius Okojie commended the University authority for quality of laboratory equipment in the institution.
According to her, the number of equipment the University has on ground means that they are thinking of the future.
Dr. Nwosu Further noted, ‘’ The lab is well stocked with equipment, they also have radiance, It’s like they have not even been commissioned, they have not started using them”.
She urged the University to maintain the tempo of progress but observed that it is yet to inscribe its name on some equipment in the laboratory, advising that such should be done before NUC comes for accreditation.
Advising further, the Representative of NUC executive secretary, said the University should engage more senior technologists for efficiency.
“The only thing that was not appropriate is that they don’t have enough senior staff, so they need to employ more senior staff” she said.
The Dean Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Bio Nyanayo after the inspections led the delegates on a courtesy call to the Registrar, Sir David Suowari who represented the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko.
The Registrar welcomed the inspectors to the University and made known the gratitude of management to NUC for the audit exercise and hoped that the inspection was hitch-free despite the short notice availed the university.
In her remarks the leader of the delegate Dr. (Mrs) chinelo Nwosu reiterated her satisfaction with the quality and quantity of laboratory equipment the institute has and further urged the Registrar to employ more Senior Technologists to ensure more productivity.
In his response the Registrar thanked NUC for her commendation and promised that more Senior Technologist will be employed as advised also soliciting for the continuous support of NUC to the University.
The equipment audit exercise is embarked upon by NUC to ascertain and measure laboratory equipment of the Nine New Federal Universities recently established by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
