Senator Ahmed Maccido has pleaded with prominent Nigerians to collectively intervene in the face-off between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the federal government.
The lawmaker who implored traditional rulers as well as past leaders of the country to rise up and save the nation’s future also stressed that the nation was in a fix should its education be abandoned.
Towards averting the negative consequences of uneducated society, Senator Maccido said Nigerian leaders and traditional rulers owed the country a duty to call the federal government and ASUU to order so as to reach an amicable agreement.
Maccido who advised federal government to be sincere in its dealing with ASUU also noted that the failure of the previous parley was a great insult and shame to a country like Nigeria where more complex issues that affect unity of the nation were successfully brought and discussed on the table of negotiation.
The Senator who also admitted that ASUU has the right to ask questions on its members entitlement, further advised that it should however be done within the ambit of rationality.
The senator debunked insunuations that the nation is broke and cannot meet ASUUs demands, saying only genuine commitment and determination to end the strike is what is required from both parties.
