The Management of the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta(FUNAAB), has pleaded with Unions and the entire staff to drop the idea of going on strike, saying “Strike is not the language of internationalization”.
Speaking at a parley with beneficiaries of TETFUND Conference Attendance Fund at International Resource Centre, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole said “strike is inimical to the aspiration and drive of FUNAAB to becoming a world-class University.
He pointed out that no foreigner, especially from the western world will like to enroll and study in a University where the academic calendar is disrupted by strike.
According to him, “I am personally disturbed. All I am seeing here are Nigerians. I want to see a situation where many foreign scholars will be on campus here”.
“The truth of the matter is that no foreigner will come to a University where the academic calendar is destabilized by strike because strike is not the language of internationalization”, he added.
Speaking further, the Vice-Chancellor stated that though Unions and members therein have the freedom to exercise their right, he said such right at times when it is exercised is counter-productive, giving its devastating effects on the University and the staff.
Professor Oyewole enjoined Unions to take a cue from some Universities which according to him will protect their Universities in times of national strike.
