The Nigerian Air Force has expressed its commitment to sign a memorandum of understanding with Bayero University Kano(BUK) on research and development, particularly on information and communications technology (I.C.T.).
The Chief Research Officer, Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, Abuja, Wing Commander (Dr.) O.C Obadike, made the disclosure during a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor on Thursday along with Squadron Leader O.J. Kaka.
Mr. Obadike, who explained the research and development initiative through a power point presentation, said that the NAF was keen on partnering with notable and reputable tertiary institutions in the country and beyond to advance the frontiers of its research and development efforts.
The Chief Research Officer added that the aim of the collaboration was to develop a manpower programme and in the long run manufacture aircraft, as done by other developed countries.
He noted that the major areas of interest to the NAF include: artificial intelligence, robotics, simulation and diagnostics, information and communications technology, systems integration, avionics and medical science.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, MFR, mni, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Professor Sadiq Isah Radda, expressed delight with the proposed collaboration and said the University would ensure its actualization.
Prof. Rasheed recalled that a BUK student some years back had fabricated a mini-aircraft, saying the University was endowed with talented personnel to suit the new initiative.
He added that the management in conjunction with the Center for Information Technology (C.I.T.) and Management Information System (M.I.S.) would look into the proposed MOU if finally sent and act appropriately.
Representatives of the Directors of C.I.T. and M.I.S. were present at the meeting.
