FUNAAB DEAN EXPLAINS WHY STUDENTS AVOID ENGINEERING PROGRAMMES!!!

The Dean of the University College of Engineering (COLENG), Professor Samuel Adejuyigbe has described the palpable fear of having to pass Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as a major reason why young school leavers don’t study Engineering courses in the nation’s tertiary institutions.
Fielding questions from FUNAAB Bulletin after the visit of the Accreditation Team of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to COLENG, Prof. Adejuyigbe said female students are worst hit by the development.
According to him, “I think the problem is that when you are coming for Engineering, you have to know Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry”.
“Our young school leavers, especially young ladies see these subjects as very difficult to pass, and as such, they run away from it”, he added.
The Dean however pointed out that, “we have encouraging them and some of them are coming into Engineering profession”.
Commenting on the outcome of the visit of NUC Accreditation Team to COLENG, Professor Adejuyigbe said, “I think it is a good one. It keeps theuniversities on their toes”.
