A professor of sociology in Ekiti State University, Prof. Adeola Olaogun has suggested that the federal government should, as a matter of urgency set up centres for ethics in all states of the federation to curb the increasing social challenges in the nation.
He made the suggestion during the presentation of the 34th Inaugural Lecture of Ekiti state University. Prof Olaogun said, “Nigerian government should, as a matter of national emergency, create at leastone centre in each state of the federation for the study of ethics.
The specific mission of the centre should be geared toward promotion of ethics in Nigeria by emphasizing ethical decisions, guided by moral principles and values, such as respect for persons, justice, and compasion”.
He was of the opinion that the Centres should specifically focus on cultivating and nourishing the heart, to form, cherish and reward good behavior as well as habits and eradicate evil ones such as the habit and mentalities of “he who no dey fast, na him board last” “419” “ojoro” and “fast guys”.
