In a year that has largely been described as one of huge successes and landmark achievements, the FUTO community gathered together in July to celebrate the first year anniversary of C.C. Asiabaka as Vice – Chancellor. It has been an exciting year for us, we have made remarkable progress in information technology, education and charting a new course for FUTO’s future.We feel so proud to celebrate this quintessential gentleman, administrator and optimist who is set on the path of epoch-making history in the annals of our great institution.
The flurry of activities included the Vice-Chancellor’s address to the 18th General assembly of the University where he gave a full account of his stewardship, accomplishments in the last one year and a peep into his future plans for the University.
Remarkable achievements in the last year:
*. Automation of academic activities
*. Deployment of infrastructure for a green environment in the University using renewable energy resource
*. Establishment of a Center for Research and International Development
*. Creation of a Research and Technology Park in the University
*. Increased collaboration with the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA)
*. Increased research funding through the Nigerian Government’s STEP-B Program
*. Research collaborations with international Universities across the world, prominent among which are, Dillard University, New Orleans, USA, Univesity of Salford, UK, Tuskegee University, USA, Egerton University, Njoro, Kenya to mention a few.
Other notable activities were, the award of excellence to a deserving student, Mr. Okechukwu Jonnwakalo of the department of Chemical Engineering who has contributed immensely to the advancement of information technology in the University, a town hall meeting between the Vice-Chancellor and students, a public lecture, which was delivered by a distinguished academic and administrator, Dr. Willie Siyanbola, the Director General of the National Centerfor Technology Management. The Vice-Chancellor also addressed the 363rd meeting of the University Senate.
