The Medical students of the University of Abuja today barricaded the entrance to the ministry of education at the National Secretariat in Abuja to press home their demand for accreditation of their course in the university as “five sets of students yet to sit for their first professional exams are stuck in 300 level owing to the inability of the school to get the programme accredited.”

According to Odiba Paul Emmanuel, one of the protesting students whose sit-in at the entrance of the ministry has blocked people from passing through, they “are ready to go” to whichever school the minister of education, professor Ruqayyatu Rufai, transfers them to.

Other students said they were not confident in the University of Abuja VC’s promise that he would get the programme accredited by October adding that they are tired of being perpetual undergraduates.

They said they were going to wait for the minister till sun set.

We plead with the Minister of Education, to do something about the looming crisis, and grant this students a feeling of relief and belonging.
