FOUR STUDENTS KIDNAPPED AT IGBINEDION: ARE OUR INSTITUTIONS TRULY SAFE?

More stories continues to Unfold daily, about the Insecured state of Our nation, and the continent at large. At VNTI, we are more concerned about the insecured state of Our students in various tertiary Institutions across the Nation.

It was a fear filled atmosphere yesterday, at the Igbinedion university, Okada, Edo state, when it was reported that four(4) medical student of the Institution has been kidnapped by suspected kidnappers along the Okada-Benin road, while on their way to Benin after completing their examination for that day at the school campus.

In a statement by the University’s Public relations officer, Mr Jide Olugbon, who expressed his shock at the incident, saying, “ it is shocking to us here really. I can tell you that on that very road robberies occur every other week. When robbery turns to abduction it becomes another thing entirely.
The lives of the students must not be jeopardized please and this is why we ought to do everything possible not to worsen a bad situation.”

We could recall that yesterday, A student was expelled from the Covenant University, Otta, on grounds of Lesbianism.
Two days before, a female student of the Igbinedion University, was suspended after stabbing her roomate for about 7 times, over a blouse.
Two days before that, A student of the National Open University of Nigeria(NOUN) reportedly committed suicide over false allegations from peer groups at school.
Another two days before that, a student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka(UNN) also committed suicide at the University pitch, for reasons, more mysterious than logical.

The number of Incidents in our tertiary institutions, has been propelling at such an alarming rate, and has become a daily affair.

The BIG question we are asking is, WHAT IS WRONG?
