The Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU) post-utme has become the trending topic after the statistics of their results were released in which only 7,663 candidates who sat for the examination made the 200 mark and above.

VNTI takes a critical look at the financial aspect of the examination and the implications to Nigerian students.

As detailed earlier by the VNTI research, 64,702 appled for a place at OAU of which only 35,832 sat for the post-utme screening held last saturday.

Every student who sat for the OAU post-utme purchased the screening for at the cost of N3,000 per candidate. Due to bank commissions, the price for the form was obtained at N3,250.

Now that the results have been released, The result checking card is sold for another N3,000 which would be increased by the bank.

Suppose, every student who sat for the examination bought the result checking scratch card which is expected, that means all students who sat for the OAU post-utme, spent N6,000 each for the event.

This sums up as detailed below;
• N3,000 for post-utme registration.
• Another N3,000 for checking result: Total N6,000.
Total Number of Candidates: 35,823
• 35,823 X N6,000 = N214,938,000(N214.9 million Naira).

Results shows that only 7,663 crossed the OAU admission threshold of 200, leaving 28,000+ out of the race.

Admitted candidates would not exceed 5,000 which has been the carrying capacity of the University, showing that about 30,823 would sit for the 2013/2014 OAU post-utme next year, if they all select OAU.

If the total sum obtained above can be used to provide more facilities for the Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU), It would raise their carrying capacity, and reduce the number of students who would have to re-take the 2013/2014 JAMB UTME and other subsequent ones.

May God Help Us, Nigerian Students.
